How Science & Technology Are Related
In pc ethics, an strategy generally known as Value Sensitive Design (VSD) has been developed to explicitly tackle the ethical nature of design. VSD aims at integrating values of ethical importance in engineering design in a systematic way (Friedman & Kahn 2003). ‘Design for X’ approaches in engineering aim at including instrumental values (like maintainability, reliability and costs) but they also embrace design for sustainability, inclusive design, and affective design (Holt & Barnes 2010). Inclusive design aims at making designs accessible to the entire inhabitants together with, for instance, handicapped folks and the aged (Erlandson 2008).
